Growing up has ingrained many values – love for simplicity, an appreciation for beauty and above all the passion and determination to go beyond expectations. I know how important your wedding day is & how many hours go into planning your perfect day. It is a day where you will constantly live in the moment & take in every joyous part. When you look back at your images from that day, you will always relive those moments and memories. My photographs capture the feeling, mood, and excitement for a life time. Beyond any investment for your wedding day, the memories from your photographs are priceless.

The Algonquin Moose

This is another image that was taken on a trip I was guiding the summer of 2009 with Kim Emerson. We easily paddled 12+ km in only a few short hours, but the time & effort spent was well worth it & very rewarding - What an incredible day! We spotted 5 moose that day. Photographed 3 Bulls, 2 of them in the same location & watched from a distance a cow & calf.

Along with a plethora of waterfowl, reptiles & amazing Algonquin Park landscape, we spotted photographed a Sand Hill Crane with young walking through the tall grasses of the creek we were paddling – at the time, a rarity to see in the Park.

All in all a very successful day & I can’t wait to get back!

Please contact me – piesphotography[at]sympatico.ca if you are interested in booking your own guided Wildlife Photographic Trip!

Lily

With eyes of cold blue steel, a personality of indifference, and coat as soft as silk, you don't mess with Lily when she is focused as some of our males with tell you, you also don't see her true spirit until she is running!! An amazing 9 year old girl who came to us in 2005, she quickly became one of our main leaders.... With the retirement of her dad Max last winter from the raceteam, Lily took over the role of top lead dog. Last year she was responsible for leading almost all of the 700 miles on the Iditarod trail and was Hank's go to girl. Lily had a litter of 5 pups the fall of '07 after she chose (yes she chose!!) Harley as her suitor. This was after literally chasing away or staring down every other male we introduced her to that we thought would be a good dad. 4 of her pups are now on the race team, Lily knew what she was doing!

Bracebridge Fire Department

Spring of ‘08 I enjoyed a walk around the falls in Bracebridge & when I was returning to my car I came across this scene – I could of spent hours in there, but of course I was already in a hurry from my leisure walk on this warm day.

Winterfest 2011

I have always enjoyed curling, being active & social with a good group of people - to bad I haven't done it since high school...
Anyways, another challenging shoot for the Winterfest games. I could not stay in one spot for too long as I would start to melt the delicate pebble surface of the ice that helps the rock curl when thrown. I had pieces of carpet under my knees & I would try my best to keep pace, panning with the participants. All in all some great images came from this outing, so come back for more!

212 Fine Foods

This is what you will first see as you walk through the front doors of 212 Fine Foods. There is comfortable seating available to the left with floor to ceiling windows to view the day & people watch.

212 Fine Foods

I was asked a few weeks ago to take some interior/exterior images of our newest eating establishment in town; 212 Fine Foods - http://www.212finefoods.ca/.
Another great challenge to take on & I was excited to use multiple strobes to create bright, vibrant & dynamic (& yes Chris – hopefully sexy) images.
This first shot shows the exterior of the building with temporary signage they were using before the more detailed carved pieces arrived. First off – notice the very large flower pot in the foreground? I had it balanced on the delicate wrought iron railing to try to get some desperately needed foreground interest. If that pot had tipped over... – ...what a mess!
I had two strobes set up to help with this image. Both lights were set up in umbrellas & the windy day kept catching them both almost knocking the one over into oncoming traffic. Strobe camera right was to help make the foreground flowers & signage pop (1/2 power) while the second strobe was camera left about 8 ft away & way up high pointed at the building the mounted sign (full power).
Had great fun with the challenge of this shoot – I would like to do more interior work.
Actual interior images to come soon... in the mean time you can go straight to: http://www.212finefoods.ca/ to see the rest of my images. (note – the saturation seems to have been amped up slightly from what I have...)

A few more images from Bill & Jennifer's day, summer 2008

Jennifer & Bill

I photographed Jen & Bill's wedding a few years back now, the summer of 2008 - A very nice, easy going & photogenic couple.
I have only photographed a couple of weddings a season for the last few years & I now have a dozen or so under my belt. I have learned so much valuable information from each of them.
More to come so please stay tuned!

Winterfest 2011

Last winter I was hired on by the Winterfest Games committee to take images of active seniors in the Haliburton Highlands community for the marketing purposes of Winterfest 2011. The games are being held here in the Highlands on Febuary 15, 16 & 17. What a great challenge & opportunity to work on my camera skills!
I will be posting images of downhill skiing, ice hockey, curling, badminton, & cross country skiing. I would have loved to have tried taking some photographs of volley ball, table tennis & duplicate bridge.
Check out the link for more information & please come to the highlands & cheer on your favourite sport team!

Rear sync would have benefited this image or a faster shutter speed to completely freeze the motion(I find the foward blur to be distracting). I am already finding the limitations of low power strobes but still have so much to learn!

Born May 16th 2007, Teagan just celebrated her 3rd birthday - Happy Birthday!

Teagan was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes in December 2008. Talking with her mom about the symptoms of diabetes was the only reason we caught Parker’s diabetes so early on with little complications.

To say these young ones are tough is an understatement – with countless blood tests & insulin injections every day – one tends to grow up a lot faster than they need to.

First thing you notice with Tamara is that she is always smiling, upbeat & very down to earth - little gets her down.
Not only is she at the top of her class with her academics, she was just nominated for youth artist of the year with her involvement in the Haliburton Dance Arts. So when you add into the mix a veteran white water paddler at the age of 18 – you get a pretty complete & well rounded (& compact) package.
Paddle hard Tamara & keep up the great work!

This just from the archives from last fall. Felt like there was so much potential of some fantastic fall colours again like last year, but the weather put a stop to that pretty quickly. Sunny warm days were far & few between - it seemed to have always been damp, cold & overcast.
I have been busy with working out the details, organizing workshops for the spring, summer & fall seasons. Getting excited to find the time to shoot with the longer days approaching. More details of the workshops coming soon.

These dogs love their job! The enthusiasm is contagious – you just can’t help yourself – you want to mush a dog team yourself, I highly recommend it. If you are in the Highland area I would check out ‘Winterdance Dogsled Tours’. www.winterdance.com
Hank Debruin (part owner & husband to Tanya McReady/Debruin, both formerly from Wolf Island ON. & Ex monster truck enthusiast) is heading up north to Alaska to race the Iditarod, a 1150 mile race across some of the most extreme, yet beautiful terrain. www.iditarod.com
Hank is the second team ever to enter from Ontario, AND, Hank will be running a completely purebred Siberian Husky team – I believe there are only about 6 or 7 teams, including Hanks, out of 70+ teams to be all purebred. It’s kind of a big deal, Hank has become a bit of a celebrity around town –www.winterdance.com/raceteam/mushers.php - it’s all pretty exciting really!
Good luck Hank to you & your race team!!
